It was standing room only tonight for an evening of super music. Tim Wilkinson, our new MC started the evening with a couple of his magical songs, followed by a visitor from Weston-Super-Mare, Marianne McAleer. Marianne gave us a lovely selection of Irish traditional songs learnt during her childhood in London. Local singer/guitarist Kevin Thomas then entertained us with a lovely set of contemporary folk songs.
Sara-Jane Brocklehurst, a Canadian currently living in Bournemouth, treated us to a number of her own self-penned songs. The first part of the evening finished with our featured band, Poacher’s Moon, who gave us a great, foot-tapping set. We were also pleased to welcome their singer Claire, on her first public appearance; she was great!
Much loved local favourite Les Wild started the second half in his usual polished style. Annie Christopher with guitarist Don Miller played their first joint set at the club, & we’re pleased our suggestion of their partnership, sounded so good.
The evening was completed by Pete Christie, visiting us from the Isle of Purbeck. Totally unplugged, Pete says Fiveways Folk is like returning to his roots. Pete is an amazing guitarist & song writer, & also treated us to a duet with traditional singer Derek Burgess.
The club continues to go from strength to strength thanks to our very supportive musicians & audience. Thank you to you all.
‘Dear Karen, we enjoyed meeting you too and we all agreed afterwards what a lovely crowd of kind and welcoming people. Fiveways is a great club and we would love to come back and headline for you. It is a cosy venue, the beer is cheap, the parking is easy and it is quiet to perform in; so you are on to a winner. Well done! Thank you for inviting us. For me it was a real bonus to see Pete Christie and some familiar faces again. It was the first time we had heard Tim and thought he is a great musician. Caroline, Poachers Moon.’
