9th January 2013

Happy New Year everyone.   Looking forward to a year of good music at Fiveways Folk and wishing success to every other club and festival showcasing live music.

The year got off to a really good start.    Frank Boyle started off the evening with some great songs and usual excellent! guitar work.  He was followed by first-timers  Ann and Eileen who gave us an entertaining mix of songs and poems. The first half continued with an amusing set of songs from Peter Green and was rounded off by McFlute  who gave us an eclectic mix of songs accompanied by Terry on guitar and Crispin on flute. They also encouraged some great harmony singing from the audience.

MC Ed opened the second half of the evening with a couple of numbers followed by the fine singing of Derek Burgess (plus shorts!) who also sang a couple of (impromptu) numbers.  Then we had a goodly spot of rhythm and blues with some nifty guitar work from Sugarhand Dave. Next we were treated to a fine mix of self-penned songs by a very welcome newcomer to the club – Polly Morris.  We hope to hear more from Polly in the near future.  Finally the evening was rounded off by some consumate guitar playing and some lovely songs from Tim Wilkinson.  All in all, a great evening of music appreciated by a small but perfectly formed audience – and who gave us some jolly good singing too!
