13th March 2013

A warm room & a warm welcome was in store for everyone this evening – yes our heating problem had been sorted!  Yet again we were treated to a really eclectic feast of music

Warwick Slade started the evening for us with a choice of his own folk ‘culture’ honed by many years on the local folk scene, followed by Nick Tann on his first visit to the club. Nick is a great singer/songwriter & performed ballads from his own personal genre. We look forward to welcoming him back in a few months time.

We were lucky enough to have Annie Brooks do a feature spot for us. Annie was in the UK from the USA for just a week, & we really enjoyed her lovely blend of songs. Popular Polly Morris then made us smile with her wry observational songs. A change of mood came from Terry & Crispin, as McFlute, & also Kevin Thomas – we all enjoyed a good sing.

Ninebarrow finished off the evening doing our second feature spot. Who would think a tenor ukulele & 2 voices could sound so haunting & memorable? Jon & Jay always bring so much to an evening at the club.

Thank you to everyone for such an enjoyable evening, & of course Tim Wilkinson too, who introduced us to his new ‘banjax’ on it’s first public outing.

‘we both enjoy coming to Fiveways as it feels like a ‘proper’ folk club rather than the singarounds that are so prevalent these days. Your format makes people perform to the best of their ability, unlike certain other places I can think of. Terry – McFlute’
